Jerry B. Martin (b. 1976, Bogotá) has lived and worked in Lima, Peru since 1980. He graduated with honors from the Corriente Alterna School of Fine Arts, specializing in painting. During his final year of studies, he initiated Typewriter, a lifelong transdisciplinary project that continues to define his artistic practice.

Martin has expanded his formation through international residencies, including “Cita a Ciegas / Blind Date” (Performance Art Residency, Cusco, Peru, 2009) and Warehouse 421 (Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2019), His work explores intersections between language, image, and performance, incorporating obsolete technologies like to investigate gesture, memory, and transcription as artistic acts.

He has received numerous awards: the EFG Latin America Art Award in partnership with Art- Nexus, winning the previous stage in CH.ACO 2019; second prize in Pasaporte para un Artista, promoted by the Aliance Francaise in Lima (2010); the Philips Art Award Peru (2002), finalist in Phillips Brazil; and graduated with the Gold Medal and Special Jury Award (Corriente Alterna, 2001),

His first solo show investigation, Blue Pieces, published by Meier-Ramírez Books, won the CH.ACO Ograma/Nave de Ediciones Prize (2018).

Martin’s work has been exhibited extensively in Peru and internationally, among which are the XXX Bienal de Sao Paulo, the Lima Art Museum (MALI), MAC Contemporary Art Museum (Lima), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chile, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, Galeria marta Traba and the Latin America Memorial in São Paulo.

His work is held in prominent public and private collections, including MALI (Museo de Arte de Lima), the Jameel Arts Centre (Dubai), Colección Hochschild, Colección Jorge Pérez, Colección Mario Testino, Coleccion Balanz, Coleccion Juan Yarur, Coleccion Alberto & Ginette Rebaza, Coleccion Jozami and the Catherine Petitgas Collection, among others.
