José Carlos Martinat’s artistic practice operates at the intersection of the real and virtual worlds. His work draws inspiration from architecture and the urban environment, human and cyberspace memory, and the multiple contexts in which these elements unfold. Through multimedia installations and sculptural assemblages, Martinat incorporates a wide range of materials and strategies that challenge preconceived notions about where objects belong and how meaning is constructed. To achieve this, he frequently employs the appropriation and recycling of information and elements drawn from both physical and virtual spaces.

Working within a multidisciplinary framework, Martinat’s practice encompasses sculpture, robotics, programming, audio, sound, light, appropriation, and interactive systems, depending on the conceptual needs of each project. His work has been presented in numerous international exhibitions, including presentations at Tate (London), the Shanghai Biennale (China), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, New York), the Biennale of North Holland, and the Saatchi Gallery.

His work is included in major public and private collections, including Tate, MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum, MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires), the Saatchi Collection, and the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), among others.
